Unplug from your digital life and recall simpler times as you build a LEGO® Ideas model of an old-fashioned typewriter (21327). The design is inspired by the classic typewriter used by the LEGO Group’s founder Ole Kirk Kristiansen, and it moves and sounds just like the real thing. The brick-built centre typebar rises each time a letter key is pressed and is linked to the carriage that moves across as you type. There is also a platen roller that you can feed real paper into.

Created by a LEGO fan for fans
Created by a LEGO fan and voted for by LEGO fans, this detailed typewriter model comes with a letter written by Thomas Kirk Kristiansen, a member of the fourth generation of the LEGO Group’s owner family – slot his letter into the typewriter to complete a delightful display piece.

The Lego Typewriter: Pros & Cons

Lego Ideas set 21327 (a.k.a Lego Ideas Typewriter) has just been completed. The authentic clicking sounds, ribbon, paper roller, and spacebar mechanism add to the surreal effect of sitting in a wood cottage typing away at a typewriter. However, some features that weren't added could've made just that little more real. For starters, the spacebar did not work and the lever had to be flicked up manually. Moreover, the lever to change the colour of the ink ribbon was not connected to the ribbon system. And the paper roller did not have enough mobility to type up to the end of the 'Billund, Denmark, July, 2021' part and not as forwards as the 'Dear Lego Friend,' part. The paper roller was also hard to load and a more lever mechanism would allow for smoother operation and a more realistic approach. However the authenticity, careful attention to detail, proper steps, and cool pieces, make it a 4/5 star product.

    Enjoyed it

This was a great lockdown project. The final product looks amazing and I’m really pleased with it. The front bar is a little fragile though so need to be careful and not move to often. For those who like the look of vintage typewriters, I’d definitely recommend.

    Good build

Had to get this when I saw it was coming out. Was a little tricky in one part but still an amazing build. It's the hardest one I've done so far but would recommend getting it. Looks amazing and I love the note that comes with it

    Love, love, love!

    Simple fabulous.

Tricky to get the moving mechanism but once the build was completed it looks amazing.

I'm actually an author so I 'typed' the opening chapter of one of my books and slid it between the rollers.
